FAQs
At Home4All, we run a day programme that supports people living with early-stage dementia and gives them independence.
We aim to give our visitors a
happy day!

Who can come to Home4All?
Our target visitors are people who have an affinity with the outdoors and who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer's, Parkinson's or Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD), or other types of Dementia.
We find the most benefit comes the earlier you visit us - waiting longer can deprive you of the benefits (and fun) of visiting us.
Do we involve family/next of kin?
Looking after our visitors at Home4All also includes the involvement of family and caregivers. Their care is of paramount importance for visitors and of a different nature to that of the staff at Home4All. Our staff will have regular contact with visitors’ families to ensure communication is as optimal as possible. Even when next of kin is living overseas, we will make sure we have regular Zoom sessions to keep family up to date on what is going on.
Who helps run Home4All?
Volunteers play an important role, supporting visitors and activities, so staff have more time to meet the individual needs of visitors. Individual personalities, lifestyles, philosophies, ethnicities and history are always taken into account. Overall the atmosphere our staff and volunteers look to create is one of loving attention and person-oriented support. We believe visitors benefit from contact with volunteers as it stimulates them to develop contact with other people that have an understanding of their condition. Given the location of Home4All, our intention is to have the local residents and schools and businesses in the surrounding community, involved and understanding what we are trying to achieve.
What happens if Home4All is no longer a good fit for me?
Dementia is an irreversible progressive condition. It is therefore possible that a visitor may get little or no benefit from the activities offered by Home4all and may need to move into more permanent care. It is important for us to be clear about this with visitors and family – from the start. Of course, this requires good consultation with all those involved. Home4All can also help visitors and families find a facility that provides 24/7 care if it’s required.
What is the "Social Approach"?
Home4All follows "the Social Approach" when caring for people with dementia. This approach, described by Prof. Anne-Mei The in the Netherlands, is based on the fact that the change in behaviour in people with dementia is not only caused by the disease itself, but also by the way that society views those with dementia. This makes dementia a social issue as well as a medical one. The Social Approach focuses on the interplay between the disease; how those involved deal with the disease; and the reaction of the environment. The aim is to restore self-confidence and autonomy in people with dementia.
People with dementia, like everybody else, want to make valuable contributions to the world around them by using their skills and talents in meaningful activities that are related to their interests. They want to be of use, to care for others and to feel they are still able to achieve something. This requires a person-centred approach, as each person experiences dementia in a different way. At Home4All we want to create a supported space that enables our visitors to achieve this.
Dementia touches not only the person with dementia but also their partners, whānau and wider community. Within the concept of the Social Approach they play an important role. Home4All organises support moments that are open for visitors and their family to share knowledge, experiences, great moments of which we all benefit. Family is welcome to join in the daily activities as they long as it benefits our visitors and themselves. To underpin the social aspect we also organise monthly family social Saturday’s to catch up with all sorts of jobs that will benefit our visitors during the week.
What is the "Green Care Farm" model?
Home4All is a “green care farm” type environment, where nature, being outside, and the care for animals and garden play an important role. Whatever the stage of the dementia process, the experience of these components remains mainly unchanged in the perception of the person with dementia. Most of the activities that our visitors can choose from relate to caring for animals, looking after the vegetables or flower garden, repairing/creating raised beds, fencing etc. These activities stimulate the mobility of our visitors in a natural way. Those with artistic desires and talents can also participate in art and craft activities inside the house or in the workshop. Most people with early dementia live at their own home, either together with their partner or on their own. Meeting others and socialising are important to prevent social isolation. This vacuum is addressed at Home4All by spending time together during activities, morning and afternoon tea, and enjoying a shared cooked lunch with everyone sitting around the table. Sharing stories and expressing their feelings in a like-minded environment create safety and acceptance.

Meet our Home4All family
Everyone is welcome at Home4All and we all work together as one big family.

At Home4All Jan and Marian take time to get to know all of their visitors with Dementia. The care they provide is tailored to bring happiness and purpose into daily life with a disability. As the main full time carer for my husband, knowing that one day a week I get a break is also incredibly important. Ian has a good time, I have a good time, and we are both supported by Home4All
